We are excited to welcome our new McGirr Parent Advisory Council Executive for 2024/25. With a knack for making things happen and a talent for bringing people together, they’re here to help make our school community even stronger in the year ahead.

Chair: Nancy R

The PAC Chair is our go-to person for all things related to parent involvement, PAC school events, and keeping our meetings organized and on track.

This year Nancy R steps into the hot seat to keep the wheels of the PAC in motion. We're very happy to have Nancy take on this role as she's been a fantastic addition to our school since she moved here with her family from Vancouver in 2021. She's been instrumental in organizing the Monster Mash, Fun Fair and Pizza Day when she's not trailing after her kids (grade 3 and Kindergarten) or running her own business (CrossFit Nanaimo).

Treasurer: Kim W

The PAC Treasurer is our all-seeing and knowing spreadsheet ninja who makes sure our books are balanced and we have funds to pay for school equipment and playground repairs, subsidize events and field trips, and everything else the PAC is supporting. In practice, that means she spends most of her time writing and tracking copious quantities of cheques!

We’re pleased to welcome Kim W back as Treasurer for a second year in a row. Kim moved to Nanaimo in 2021 from Burnaby (but her husband grew up on Gabriola so they were practically locals already!). She has a son in grade 2 and her youngest will start kindergarten next year. When she’s not calmly (and diplomatically) handling "emergency reimbursements" for the last-minute delivery of pizza to PAC events (or cooking hundreds of hot dogs in a slow cooker – ask her about that one when you meet her!), she works full time as a team lead with PHSA doing reporting and analytics for IT projects in healthcare.

Secretary: Diana D

The PAC Secretary is the master of meeting minutes who can capture every “action item” with speed and accuracy so no one forgets what they volunteered to do again.

This year Diana D is taking up the mantle of cataloguing our PAC’s history. Diana grew up in Nanaimo but spent a long time in exile in England, France, and Vancouver before moving back here in 2021. She has two sons at the school (in grade 3 and 5). Once upon a time, Diana worked in corporate communications and TV news journalism, but now mostly spends her days orchestrating household operations and trying to remember to send money for the popcorn sale.

Member at Large: Keely F

The Member at Large is the person who swoops in when there’s a task that needs doing, a decision that needs support, or a fresh perspective that needs sharing.

This year we’re grateful to have Keely F on the job. Keely has been helping to organize the Monster Mash for the past couple of years; her efforts have ensured that our little ghosts and goblins have a special place to haunt at Halloween. She has a special connection to McGirr as she is a former student of these hallowed halls AND she's married to our current music/band teacher at the school. She has two boys (grade 2 and kindergarten) and she works at as an ultrasound technologist at the hospital.

A HUGE thank you to our outgoing executives for their hard work the past few years: Twyla S (Chair 2022-2024), Petra D (Secretary 2022-2024), and Marla D (Member at Large, 2022-2024). These super heroes in disguise have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to set up a strong foundation for our PAC to build on in the years ahead.
