As we head into the busy Christmas season, PAC has just announced its latest fundraisers (Purdy’s and restaurant gift cards, in case you were wondering and have your credit card at the ready…). But have you ever wondered what the point of all this fundraising is?
The fundraising we do through PAC helps to supplement existing budgets to ensure that our kids get access to programs, supplies, and experiences they otherwise wouldn’t. What does that actually look like in practice?
Every year is a little bit different but here are some of the places the money went in 2023/2024:
Over $1500 went to a school wide pizza day where every child at the school gets a pizza lunch for FREE
Over $500 went to our school library to enhance the books and materials available to students
Over $5000 went to playground repairs (yep, things like the broken slide last year get invoiced to PAC)
Over $500 was spent on new gym equipment like volleyballs (and our senior volleyball teams have been having a cracking season so far this year so those balls are going to good use!)
$100 is available to EVERY teacher in the school for supplies plus $15 per student to subsidize field trips
$2000 is contributed each year to the Grade 7 graduation celebration
$1500 goes to annual scholarships for McGirr alumni who are graduating from high school
That’s just to name a few of the things that your support of PAC has enabled us to deliver. This year we’ve already approved up to $3500 in spending to support the school produce its first ever (in recent history, at least) musical production of Annie. We’re excited about our students being able to participate in such an exciting and fun project and we’re happy that, with your help, McGirr PAC is able to back initiatives like this.
One question that busy parents often ask is: wouldn’t it be easier to just give cash? Yep, it would. But fundraising is how we come together as a school community. We prefer fundraising money while having fun or offering products you would already be planning to buy.
Fundraisers give us a reason to get together for events like movie nights, Halloween dances, and fun fairs, where we get to build school spirit and make memories with our kids. (But we do take both cash and cheques made out to ‘McGirr PAC’ if you prefer…).
So, next time you see a fundraiser coming up, think of it as a chance to support the school, connect with our community, and make some memories with your kids along the way. We are always grateful for the support we receive from our awesome school community!
